About Metabase

Metabase: point it at any PostgreSQL or MySQL database and build questions, dashboards and alerts without SQL (or with it). Keeps its own settings in a PostgreSQL database from your workspace.

What you get

  • Connect workspace databases — Add your PostgreSQL/MySQL apps as data sources by their internal address
  • Driver plugins — Extra database drivers dropped into the plugins volume are kept across redeploys
  • Own settings database — Dashboards and users live in a PostgreSQL database you choose in the wizard

Storage that survives a restart

Metabase is deployed with a persistent volume. They keep their contents across restarts, redeploys and resource changes, and can be resized later.

  • mb_plugins — 1 GB — Extra database driver plugins

How deployment works

  1. Click Deploy Metabase and sign in to your Nexent Cloud workspace (or create one - it takes a minute).
  2. Name the app and adjust CPU, memory and storage if the defaults don't fit; the price updates as you go.
  3. Nexent provisions the containers, their persistent volumes and a *.nexentcloud.com address with TLS. Add your own domain afterwards from the app's settings.

Good to know

  • The first visit runs Metabase's setup, where you create the admin and add your first data source - other apps' internal addresses (shown on their App Details) work as hosts.

Questions about Metabase hosting

How much does hosting Metabase cost?

$5.15 a month, or $51.48 a year. That covers 1 vCPU, 2 GB of memory, 1 GB of persistent storage and 100 GB of bandwidth, with TLS and an address included. Resources can be changed afterwards and the price follows them.

How long does it take to deploy Metabase?

About 3 min. Nexent Cloud pulls the image, attaches the storage it needs and issues a certificate for its address; you do not configure a server, a reverse proxy or a certificate renewal.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Every app gets an address on nexentcloud.com with TLS immediately, and you can point your own domain at it afterwards from the app’s settings - the certificate is issued and renewed for you.

Is my Metabase data kept when it restarts?

Yes. Metabase is deployed with a persistent volume (mb_plugins 1 GB), which survive restarts, redeploys and resource changes.

Can I move away later?

It is standard Metabase, running in a container from the upstream image - not a fork and not a managed variant. Your data is on a volume you can back up and take with you.
