About Poste.io

Poste.io: SMTP, IMAP and POP3 with spam and virus filtering, DKIM/SPF/DMARC, Sieve rules, Roundcube webmail and a web admin panel for domains, mailboxes and aliases, all in one container. Mailboxes and settings live on a persistent volume. Note: the platform does not yet expose the mail ports (25, 465, 587, 993), so at the moment only the web interface is reachable from outside - see the notes before deploying.

What you get

  • Admin account created for you — The first visit opens the setup page where you create the administrator and the first mail domain
  • Everything in one container — SMTP, IMAP/POP3, spam filtering, webmail and the admin panel - nothing else to set up
  • Persistent mailboxes — Mail, accounts and DKIM keys live on a dedicated volume that survives redeploys; grow it from Settings > Storage

Storage that survives a restart

Poste.io is deployed with a persistent volume. They keep their contents across restarts, redeploys and resource changes, and can be resized later.

  • poste_data — 20 GB — Mailboxes, accounts, DKIM keys and configuration

How deployment works

  1. Click Deploy Poste.io and sign in to your Nexent Cloud workspace (or create one - it takes a minute).
  2. Name the app and adjust CPU, memory and storage if the defaults don't fit; the price updates as you go.
  3. Nexent provisions the containers, their persistent volumes and a *.nexentcloud.com address with TLS. Add your own domain afterwards from the app's settings.

Good to know

  • First visit opens the setup page: create the administrator account and your first mail domain there.
  • The mail ports (25 for receiving, 465/587 for sending from clients, 993/995 for reading) are not exposed by the platform yet, so right now other mail servers and mail apps like Outlook or Thunderbird cannot reach this server - only the admin panel and webmail work from outside. Do not point a domain's MX record at it until that changes.
  • Turn off "Redirect to HTTPS" in the admin panel if you re-enable it: HTTPS is terminated by the platform, and a redirect inside the container loops.
  • ClamAV (virus scanning) is off by default because it needs about 1 GB of RAM on its own; set DISABLE_CLAMAV to FALSE under Settings > Environment and raise the memory allocation to turn it on.

Questions about Poste.io hosting

How much does hosting Poste.io cost?

$8.05 a month, or $80.48 a year. That covers 1 vCPU, 2 GB of memory, 20 GB of persistent storage and 200 GB of bandwidth, with TLS and an address included. Resources can be changed afterwards and the price follows them.

How long does it take to deploy Poste.io?

About 5 min. Nexent Cloud pulls the image, attaches the storage it needs and issues a certificate for its address; you do not configure a server, a reverse proxy or a certificate renewal.

Can I use my own domain?

Yes. Every app gets an address on nexentcloud.com with TLS immediately, and you can point your own domain at it afterwards from the app’s settings - the certificate is issued and renewed for you.

Is my Poste.io data kept when it restarts?

Yes. Poste.io is deployed with a persistent volume (poste_data 20 GB), which survive restarts, redeploys and resource changes.

Can I move away later?

It is standard Poste.io, running in a container from the upstream image - not a fork and not a managed variant. Your data is on a volume you can back up and take with you.
